(Ok, this is my first impressions of Judith Butler's theories on Queer Culture...so I might be way off or close, so share what you feel or know, please)

Queer Theory
The theory of multiculturalism at work within every culture paradigm. When one is not part of the majority culture, say a queer for instance, we must hide our queerness in order to blend in.
This is until, as a subset of the whole culture, we reclaim our diversity to also shape and influence the greater culture, and reclaim a word like QUEER, as an empowerment to our identity. Its sort of a paradox, reclaiming QUEER so we can transcend labels. Queer is part of our identity, a label, not the whole-self.
This could be said of any group subset which is not the majority group: like Wiccans, American Indians, Thelemites, Feminists, Blacks, Women, etc.

Re: Queer Theory
Mon, November 6, 2006 - 8:34 PMAlthough I am not an academic, Queer Theory does seem to lump so many different kinds of people together under 'The Rainbow', so to speak.
Diversity is wonderful, and makes life more interesting. And 'Queer' is definately a fun word, and if you're a bit weird - like me - then it can feel great to wear it like a badge of honor. But what if you don't want to consider yourself 'Weird'.. Or what if you don't want to be represented by someone so completely different from yourself. Often I wonder about those who speak for me in the social/political arena - me being a Man, not just being Homosexual, and whether or not they actually have my best interests at heart. On either count.
